Over nearly two decades in this industry, certain books were vital to my growth at moments when no mentor was around. I started curating them into a collection organized by where you are in your career and what you're trying to grow into: writing better code, understanding how systems run, communicating with humans, navigating the business side, stepping into leadership.
Each post in this series explores one of those development paths and the books that shaped my thinking about it. Think of it as a buffet. Cherry-pick what matches where you are right now, skip what doesn't resonate yet (it might later), and don't feel obligated to read it in any specific order.
This collection reflects my own journey and certainly doesn't encompass the full range of voices in our field. If you've read something that changed how you work, I'd love to hear about it.
